Four Important Steps To Home Work Success!

Not everyone has the discipline to work from home. With the help of a few simple steps, you can be on your way to a successful home working business.

You have recently made the decision to work from home. Although at first glance it all seems like rainbows, you can certainly run into some problems if you are not properly prepared. To become a successful work-at-home mum, start with these 4 important steps:

  1. Get dressed
  2. Take a special office
  3. Order
  4. Treat your home as if it were great

The four important steps for home workers

1. Get dressed

For months, you have been dreaming of working at home in your pyjamas. Finally, it's here. You roll out of bed and go to the kitchen for some coffee and switch on the TV for the morning show. You sit on the couch and decide to work in your pajamas today. DON'T! Make sure you set your alarm the night before. When the alarm goes off, jump in the shower and get dressed for your workday, just like you would if you were on your way to work. It may be tempting to stay in your pyjamas, but you will feel much more productive and professional once you have dressed for the day. Never underestimate the power of a shower and clean clothes.

2. Get a special office

As a mother, you may chuckle at this concept. We rarely have time for ourselves, let alone have our own office. If you're like me, my office has turned into the kids' playroom. It's time to claim that room back. Make sure you have your own independent space where you can do business. If you can't claim your room, make sure you reserve a space in your home specifically for yourself and your work. That can be something as simple as a private spot at the kitchen table. Whatever it is, make it your own and let the kids know that it is Mum's work space and off limits.

3. Order

We all like to think of our home as our comfortable place. That may be true, but it is very important to turn some of that comfortable place into a functioning business. To do that, you need to get organised. If you are already organised, good for you. If not, it's time! There's nothing more frustrating than finding out during an important phone call that you can't find the quote you wanted to discuss with a potential client. You're soon no longer confident about the conversation, but you're completely confused when you search through piles of children's homework, bills and your daughter's beautiful drawings to no avail. You don't want to come across as a badly planned entrepreneur. To avoid this, you need to get organised.

4. Treat your home as if it were great

Let's be honest. Your home is totally awesome! You can earn a living while you are at home with your children. Make sure you treat your job and employer like you love your job. Don't play hooky. Don't skip emails. Don't miss meetings. Be available. Prove to yourself that you can be a successful home worker. If you can do this, you can do anything!
